description

Alice Bloom is the now only surviving relative/sister of the infamous movie star, Claire. Still in shock, Alice heard the news on the radio before the authorities called to inform her of her sister's demise. The problem with her sister's death, it's ruled as a murder, and the killer is still on the loose.

Set in the Golden Age of Hollywood (1930s/40s), the author incorporates famous names into the story like De Mille, Bugsy, and Garbo, to name a few - that help build a star-studded journey for readers. The story is true to the era and will captivate readers through its visual depictions of set locations and plot twists.

The author wrote the book from a first POV, Alice's, wherein there are a unique intimacy and a deeper look into Alice's thoughts of her sister and yet, limited to what she can discover or what the author is willing to present at that time. This technique is the perfect POV in solving the case and still gets an insider look at Alice's suspicions. Taking her sister's place in the film, Alice was in the best position to snoop around and found out what happened to her sister. Alice and Detective Jack Woods, the officer assigned the case, unearthed many new revelations during their investigation that led them to dangerous paths. Together, they try to find the murder while trying to fend off their fascination and later attraction with each other.

In conclusion, Starlet is a must-read for mystery buffs, historical fanatics, and crime buffs of all ages. I enjoyed this book since the mystery was baffling and exciting as Alice weeds out her suspect list in her leather-bound notebook. The storyline and plot will captivate readers in pushing through and gobbling each tidbit, looking for details and connections like Alice. The author does a great job of disclosing each clue slowly and carefully. Each clue fits well in the end for a shocking ending that will leave readers spellbound even after the pages have turned.
