Really good read! The perspective is from Tambu a village girl in Zimbabwe. Her education was delayed because only her brother's education was given importance and support by the family heads. with his death, she was able as the eldest child to continue her education.
She moves from the homestead to the mission where her uncle and benefactor works. We see events from her point of view which essentially is a bridge from the views/attitudes of the more traditional members of her family and her cousin (her benefactor uncle's daughter) who spend some time in England and who is questioning about societies structures.
I found it enlightening to see Tambu's struggles to find herself and to navigate her position in society and within the family.
