Searching for Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede

4.0

This second book of the Enchanted Forest Chronicles focuses the narrative on Mendabar, the King of the Enchanted Forest. Wizards have been meddling in the Forest again, and they have kidnapped Kazul, King of the Dragons, to boot. To avoid an international incident, or a magical disaster, Mendabar sets out to rescue Kazul, accompanied by Cimorene, the companion, cook, and librarian to Kazul. Who also happens to be a princess.

Mendabar has dealt with enough airheaded, pushy princesses, thank you. But Cimorene...seems to be different. And, as the story progresses, with Mendabar and Cimorene meeting little variations on traditional fairy tale tropes, Mendabar begins to see the person that Cimorene is, rather than the princess.

Also, they kick a fair amount of wizard butt.

Witty and swift, this book could be read in an evening, and probably will be! It's hard to stop, and not just stop at one book. If you like one book, you're probably going to blast through the series.
