I’m not sure if this book was perfect, as it’s totally possible I am blinded by the fact it is perfect for me in particular.

This book has all of the atmosphere and imagery that I love to read in a gothic type novel, set against the very real historical background of the Mexican-American war. There were scary vampires left and right and cannon fire going off everywhere and the romance still had me somehow kicking my feet and giggling? How is this possible? No idea, but the YEARNING? Hello

I see many people mentioning the marketing of this book as a horror novel. It is not. It is a historical gothic romance with heavy emphasis on creepy atmosphere and some minor gore. Please don’t read this and expect a horror novel. I will also guess (as the actual vampires are not the hugest part of this book) that the title is not meant to be misleading, but rather has a double meaning. It refers to both the actual vampires living in the region AND the enemy Americans coming to “suck the land dry”.

The historical setting of this novel is such an incredible mix with the gothic atmospheric vibes of the writing. It is colorful, lush, and well researched, and even in the bright light of day in the middle of the hot desert it makes you feel a little bit cold and creeped out. So frickin cool

Anyway give me everything else this author has written immediately please
