The Eyre Affair
by Jasper Fforde
Things I liked: The cleverness of the plot as a whole ('hole'?) as well as many of the quirky concepts, from the name of the heroine - Thursday Next - to the idea of the prose portal which permits entry into the world of a specific work of literature. (Sometime I must get around to putting together a Goodreads list of books into which I'd like to prose-port!) I also enjoyed the smugness when I 'got' the literary allusions.
Things I disliked: It's a little TOO clever, maybe a smug too far. Novels that are this self-aware I find quite tiring, and I can only take so much of them. But enjoyable? Oh yes.
