Matilda
by Roald Dahl
A major childhood favorite.
Characters are very black & white, with the exception of Lavender and Micheal, but alas, this is a child's book and characters are often written as such. I love how obvious the good characters are based on names alone. Come on, Mrs. Trenchbull and Miss Honey? Can you imagine a MEAN Miss Honey? Very quick, unrealistic ending but again, that's kind of what makes this story wonderful. Even the movie did a better job of at least getting the Wormwoods to sign adoption papers for Matilda (as if adoption was that simple *sigh*). But again, this book is not meant to be realistic, but to provide children with a great story with relateable characters & situations, and this book does it wonderfully.
Wonderful book, wonderful story. I love the picture in which Matilda is reading on a little chair next to her bed with a cup of hot chocolate. Like, I REALLY love this picture. A lot. I'd consider getting that picture tattooed onto myself.
