I enjoyed reading it, for the most part, but I can't say that it was "great" or "amazing." The plot felt...bloated. Apt, since apparently this novel was written as an extension/continuation of a short story of the same name. (Also apt since Oscar Wao spends most of his life being miserably fat.) I think he should've changed the name to reflect the way this novel's focus wasn't reeeeally on "the brief wondrous life of Oscar Wao" so much as "the somewhat tragic history of Oscar Wao's female relatives, and also have you noticed lately that men are sex-obsessed and dictatorships are violent?"

Also, what's with the vagueness of who was narrating? And all the footnotes? And the untranslated Spanish? (I enjoyed all these aspects of the book, honestly, but I just don't understand the *point* beyond making those of us who understood the Spanish bits feel vaguely special.)
