UPDATE:

Reading this arc during the 2020 election was by far the best choice! A continuation of Fable’s high seas adventure riddled with more animosity, longing for a parent’s love and affirmation, a pinch of spicy romance, and enough betrayal and secrets to keep the telenovela lovers in all of us satisfied, Namesake earns its title through Fable’s own blood and tears.

While I do enjoy a decent steamy romance, I adjusted my expectations quite quickly when I realized this novel is not about Fable and West. Or rather, it’s about them, but the relationship focus and goal for Fable is about defining family. Whether it’s through blood or the family you find and choose (represented through many ensemble characters and groups), Fable’s true quest is to find her place and her people.

I’d say she succeeds.

Home is where we make it. Family is whoever we choose it to be.

I’d say that’s a solid theme to rally around in 2021. ✌
