Beasts of Ruin
by Ayana Gray
I am so glad I picked up the sequel because I KNEW I would need it right after reading Beasts of Prey.
At the end of book 1, our two protagonists got separated and now Koffi is a prisoner at a magical academy of sorts while loveable awkward Ekon is off to save her from the clutches of Fedu. I think it's so cute that he has Koffi's grandmother with him which is good bc he can be clueless at times and grandma has skill.
I did enjoy reading the backstory between Themba and Binti but I wish that had been a novella because it wasn't really crucial to the plot.
in Beasts of Ruin, we see that the the magic system with Koffi and the world building with Ekon have expanded. I love the new creatures and how they're all based in African folklore. I learned so much!
Also, can I say that Zain understands Koffi in a way that Ekon doesn't.
Looking forward to book 3!
