We Were Liars by E. Lockhart
2.0
slow-paced

The esteemed Sinclair family seems to have it all, with their own private island near Martha's Vineyard. However, their summer is shattered when four teens of the family, known as the Liars, engage in a destructive friendship. The group's bond is tested by a secret, a mysterious accident, and a series of lies that hide the truth about a tragic event.

Absolutely not y'all. I'm sorry, but I just can't with this book. It was SO BORING. The first 200 pages (out of only 225) were so mundane, to the point that I didn't feel like anything had actually happened. The ending, while strong, didn't completely surprise me because I feel like the twist that was offered has been done many times and in a more engaging way, but nonetheless it did save this from being a one star read. I think what was hardest for me in this book was that the sentences were structured in short and choppy ways. It felt like there was no flow among the plot, characters, or chapters. This is a very polarizing book, and now I see why there are so many mixed reviews, and for me it just didn't work at all.
