a deeply okay epistolary novella set in late 70s LA (very TJR, although you only know it’s set then because of the letter headings lol). I love an epistolary novel but I thought this was a tad underbaked. Unfolded very predictably. Cringey mentions of other elements of the TJRCU (would love to never hear about Mick Riva, even in passing, ever again. assassinate that character). Quick beach read.

Really, the excessive schmaltziness between Carrie and David that developed so quickly (after two letters??? really???) was my biggest issue. Such bland basic language shouldn’t lead to emotional connections that easily. Just kind of unoriginal.
