A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas
4.0
“I was as unburdened as a piece of dandelion fluff, and he was the wind that stirred me about the world.”

Review:
This book is all about a huntress named Feyre, they live in a world where Faeries and Humans don’t leave in harmony. During one of Feyre’s hunting she saw a big wolf. Feyre hating faeries, thought it might be one, because of its abnormal size for a wolf. She decided to shoot it with her ash arrow. Ash woods are the only thing lethal to any faeries. After she killed the wolf, she doubted herself whether it was indeed a faerie since it didn’t even bother to fight back. Later, a beast went into their house claiming that she killed their kind, and that he came there to retrieve Feyre in exchange for the life she took.
There’s a lot of hype surrounding this book/series, and I have great expectations. It did reach my expectation, but at the same time it felt like something was missing. In terms of the characters, I really love each one of them, they all have unique characteristics that for me made them stand out. Nesta being cold and blunt about everything. Although I find her annoying, I later understood/appreciated her on why she acts this way. The tension between Feyre and Tamlin are one of my favorites about the characters, throughout the story we get to see how this tension between them slowly faded and grew into something more romantic. Tamlin is a very secretive character especially towards Feyre and this makes the whole story more interesting since I really want to get some answers on why he didn’t want to kill Feyre despite her killing one of his kind, but instead took her in and gave her a better life. Toward the end of the story, we get the answers on why he’s been acting like that to Feyre. Moving on, I didn’t like how there’s going to be a love triangle. Rhysand is now introduced into the story and I actually don’t like it. One of the things that confuses me about this is that Feyre said that she would have still agreed to go with Rhysand every month even if they don’t have an agreement. I want to know the reason why, and I hope it will be explained at the next book. Lucien is also a character that I wished we could have known/understood more. If it wasn’t obvious, I absolutely love Feyre and Tamlin’s relationship, it’s sweet how Feyre felt more of herself and at home in the Spring court than her at her real home and family. Also, the way Feyre changed her heart from hating the faeries to caring for them is sweet. Overall, I really liked the characters, but I wished it would be more diverse.
The world building and writing style of this book really wowed me. I absolutely loved the world building. It easily made me fall in love with the world with how everything is explained so beautifully, I could actually imagine that I could see the whole palace and it’s so damn beautiful. In addition to that, I appreciate how this doesn’t info dump you with all the world building in one go, but rather gives it to you slowly and carefully. The downside of the world building in this book is that it took half the book, and there’s not much interesting stuff that happened. I just wished that some parts were cut off so that the ending was explained better. The pacing of the book is slow but, it’s a quick and easy read.
For the plot/storyline of the book, I have a lot to say on the ending. Yeah, I really enjoyed the storyline and the whole plot, but the ending is so underwhelming. Like that’s it? That’s all we get? All the anticipation for a battle between Amarantha and Tamlin, and we get Amarantha just being killed by Tamlin and not even bothering to fight back? Like that’s freaking underwhelming. First, how did Tamlin even got his powers back? Like correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t it if Feyre got the answer to the riddle wrong she’s going to die? And yeah she got it wrong, and she got killed, but how did Tamlin got his powers back? Amarantha is a character that would keep her words but would manipulate them so that only she could benefit. So Tamlin getting his powers without any explanation why is so confusing. I’ve mentioned this already but, am I the only one expecting a dramatic and action-packed fight between Amarantha and Tamlin? Like I’m expecting they would try to kill each other at least, but no, all I got was Tamlin getting his powers back and Amarantha not even bothering to fight back. Like yeah Tamlin is much powerful than her, but she just gave up everything that she worked hard for for 49 years, she just gave up that easily just like that? Oh, and let’s not forget how Feyre just became a High Fae. Like how? How did she become a High Fae? Just because she sacrificed herself and like all the other High Fae gathered around her, she magically became a High Fae. I just wished this was explained more, hopefully, all of this will be explained on the next book. Overall, I really enjoyed this book, it was a fun, quick, and easy read. I rated this book 4 stars. Hoped that we could get more diversity in this book though.
