As much as I love this series, this book I think is my least favorite of all four books. I think it left me with more questions than it did answers. Obviously I loved Carter and Gavin’s story and their relationship, which is the main focus of the book. However, I there are a few things that bothered me:

-Gordo’s tattoo thing is not described well enough and I still don’t understand what happened.
-How the beast came to be wasn’t answered and I still don’t really get how they defeated him.
-Are there ghosts in this world? Because when Ox glowed it seemed like it.
-Chris and Tanner’s situation seemed a little much and I think there was a better way to convey their friendship.
-Bambi was underutilized.
-Dominique and Will were underdeveloped.
-The authors fear of killing people often cheapened certain moments.
-Some speculation about Thomas and Elizabeth’s sexualities I felt were unnecessary (not everything had to be gay).

Overall though I did enjoy this book and would recommend it to others. I also would love for TJ Klune to write a 5th book set in the future about Joshua or to rewrite these 4 books from Joe, Mark, Kelly, and Gavin’s POV. (Also a book about a young Elizabeth or one about Jessie and Dominique wouldn’t be terrible ideas either.)
