Remarkably Bright Creatures was a 5 star read for me last year, when this was billed in the same vein I was all in.  What a let down.  A septuagenarian character does NOT make your book in the same category as Remarkably Bright Creatures.  For crying out loud, a few goldfish in a tank do NOT come close to Marcellus.

Magda was someone I wanted to like, so too was the plot:  a roadtrip was planned by Magda's BFF, Sara, for her birthday.  Sara died before the trip, so Magda took it anyways with Sara's ashes.

There was some opportunity for layers and complexity here.  Perhaps some dark humor mixed with learning and grief.  Instead it was heavily grief laden, and it wasn't for me.  Cynthia Nixon did a lovely job with the narration, but even that didn't save this one for me.
