Super funny and romantic and cheesy and indulgent and silly. My qualm though is with the time period. Its hard to have suspension of belief when the culture of the victorian era directly came from the British Empire colonizing and slaughtering and stealing, yknow? And, like, for a book about magical birds it would've been nice to mention how "oh, slavery and colonialism didnt exist in this story", "here are some black main characters", etc etc. As a white person talking about a white author though, Im sure that strategy would have problems as well, so idk.
