A Private Disgrace: Lizzie Borden by Daylight: (A True Crime Fact Account of the Lizzie Borden Ax Murders) by Victoria Lincoln

dark funny mysterious slow-paced

3.5

Definitely a book largely based on gossip and hearsay, but I do think there’s value in gossip that comes from people personally familiar with the case, the victims, and the alleged perpetrator. The insights into upper class Fall River are also IMO an important addition to understanding Lizzie, as much as she can be understood over a hundred years later- tho there are some parts that I think are more revealing than Victoria Lincoln intended them to be. Some parts of the conclusions that Lincoln reaches are just bonkers, based on very outdated medical science, but several of the anecdotal tidbits are genuinely quite interesting and possibly revealing.
