Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho

Unputdownable. This was exactly the magical adventure I was in the mood for. A lot of people have compared it to Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell, and there are similarities, but this moves faster and has a lighter tone. It has its sad moments, but it is generally less melancholy. I would definitely recommend it to fans of fantasy merged with alternative history.
