Charles Dickens: A Life
by Claire Tomalin
Very accessible life of Dickens, touching on personal and literary development - as others have noted there is a bit of supposition at times though it’s always quite reasonable (possibly until the very end when Claire Tomalin appears to make a really odd leap in the dark about the circumstances of Dickens’ death without any evidence at all?! But maybe I am just not aware of other debates around this) anyway I would definitely recommend this as a good warts and all, easy to enjoy biography.
