Snow Country by Yasunari Kawabata
4.0

A Japanese story of love between a Tokyo businessman and a rural geisha, Kawabata won the Nobel Prize for Literature as a result of this, and other, publications, such was the critical acclaim of this text. Whilst from translation, the English version is still beautiful and vivid, detailing the troubled relationship the two principal characters have, leading to the final climactic conflagration of the novel. For the sheer stream-of-consciousness style and stunning descriptions of the Japanese mountains this is a must read.
