wonderful insights about life, death, grief and our relationships to each other. the messaging of the book, however, felt quite … one dimensional? which left a lot to be desired considering the complexity of the themes that were attempted to be explored. this felt like an early 2010s coming of age film that screams about living in the moment against a backdrop of grief and heartbreak, but all of these characters were in their fourties instead. the mc genuinely felt a little like a delaney character sketch.

i feel like i would have gotten a lot more from it had i read it as a teenager. there was something about the messaging that felt distinctly … YA, though the narrative and the plot did not. it honestly feels like it should be made into a film. i teared up at the end but i also was left really disappointed and was also rolling my eyes. so ?? ??
