The Deep by Nick Cutter

5.0

one of the most sickening, mind-melting, and utterly hopeless books ive ever read. The Deep feels like this rot that keeps unfurling and corrupting more and more until the words you are reading feel nothing like the beginning. there are moments where i genuinely couldnt believe i was still reading the same book i started with.

i dont particularly feel like i could even capture this novel’s madness in a way that would do it justice. all i can say is that its a horrible, horrible book. it is probably the bleakest thing ive ever read. it is violent, and cruel, and depressing. there is genuinely an endless amount of sickening visuals and horrible revelations, with little levity to back it up. that being said, it’s also written incredibly well - not super shocking considering how good The Troop was. every character is captivating, and i had to force myself to stop reading at points because its just so good.

if you can stomach it, there’s not much like it. probably one of, if not, my favorite thing ive ever read.
