This one was so good. I’m mad I didn’t read it sooner.
June was initially a semi likable character, then she wasn’t. Jealous and seething over the success her “friend” Athena has achieved in becoming a best selling author really shines through and the worst of the character.
June is a thief, stealing Athena’s work, passing it off as her own and then has the audacity to feel like she’s owed something in return from the publishing community from readers all under the assumption that she should’ve been the one on top from the beginning.
She should’ve picked a different career because obviously she was not good enough writer to get the same kind of accolades as Athena. But you know what they say everything eventually comes out.
Being trolled online by keyboard warriors warrior and social media influencers who said that she plagiarized work, passing it off as her own, making her paranoid and suspicious of everyone.
There were no lengths short of murder that she would go to keep the secret. June is the villain you want to scream at while secretly admiring how well she plays the game.
If you’re ready for a dark, uncomfortable ride through the publishing world one that holds up a mirror to privilege and power this one has it in spades.
