P.S. I Still Love You by Jenny Han

4.0

★ ★ ★ ½

i really love these books and characters, so i was looking forward to reading the sequel to the story after the first book ended on a cliffhanger.

one of my favorite things i enjoy about these novels is the family dynamic, i love lara jean’s relationship with her family and the song sisters’ relationship with one another and how loyal they are to each other. lara jean’s dad is also incredibly kind and supportive of his daughters, and is great representation for a loving household which many young adult books lack.

i disliked peter a lot in this book, mainly because i feel like the author was trying to push him as a villain that went a long with genevieve. peter did do a lot of questionable and mean things to lara jean, but i want to decide that on my own instead of being swayed into that opinion by the arrival of a new love interest. peter is a asshole for reasons other than being less romantic than john ambrose.

while i disliked peter’s character arc, i can’t say i didn’t ENJOY seeing some drama finally happening in these books! i feel as if the first book was really cookie cutter clean, and this sequel showed drama and action that i wanted the first book to have more of. i love the idea of the tag game that the friend group played as well as the rush of john ambrose and lara jean being together at the nursing home! the rush of this book is what made me really enjoy it, i liked how fast paced it felt.

overall i think that the addition of john ambrose — while it may not have been needed — was really interesting and a good take on setting up how peter and lara jean’s relationship was going and how it developed. it did break my heart when he got rejected tho.
