Wrong Number, Right Guy by Elle Casey

2.0

I will admit that I wasn't expecting to be head over heals about this book, but I was looking for a new audiobook, and this one did look fun. But I was so wrong. Wrong Number Right Guy by Elle Casey was not fun at all, and I didn't like this book. It was seriously an annoying read.

Wrong Number, Right Guy is about May, who is a wedding photographer. When she gets text messages telling her to come to a bar, she believes it's from her sister who just got a new cell phone. Of course it wasn't, and before she knows it she's drawn into a big mess. And she meets Ozzie, who is the head of a security company called Bourbon Street Boys. And then she starts working for them as a photographer. And there romance . . . sort of.

May was just sooo frustrating and slow on the uptake. She was seriously bordering on too-stupid-to-live territory, if you ask me. And, unfortunately for me, the whole book is told from her first-person point of view. There was so much "oh I get it now" way later than anyone would have figured something out. She was just so slow. And there was also so much of how she needed to stop thinking about how attractive Ozzie was. I get it, she thinks he's out. I don't need to be hit over the head with it over and over and over again.

It felt like this book didn't know if it was a romance or not. There was SO MUCH detail of May learning how to work for a security company, and you know what, I DON'T CARE! I'm not reading this for details of what a security company does. I wanted the romance, which was sadly lacking. I know that Ozzie and May were supposed to be together because that's what the book told me. But I didn't feel the connection or understand why May and Ozzie would have been a good couple.

I also thought the author was trying way too hard to be funny, which I think added to May seeming like an idiot all the time. There were some funny bits, I will say, but for the most part it was just eye-rolly. My favorite aspect of the novel were Felix and Sahara, May and Ozzie's dogs, respectively. I did love them, and how quickly they bonded. But, when my favorite part of a book are about the pets, that's not really a good sign. I just didn't enjoy Wrong Number Right Guy, at all. More than anything I was just annoyed by the characters, especially May.This review was originally posted on Quinn's Book Nook
