Sid Meier's Memoir!: A Life in Computer Games by Sid Meier

5.0

Growing up with Sid Meier's Civilization series, it was a blast reading about the (development) history of these and other games of his. As the subtitle already suggests, the memoir dives less into Meier's personal life and puts his computer games on center stage instead. I was surprised the nuggets of wisdom Meier imparts are useful not only to game designers but to anyone engaged in creative pursuits. All in all a quick read I thoroughly enjoyed.

Favourite quote:
'A bad game strands you in the past (as in, “What just happened?”) while a mediocre one keeps you in the present (“Sure, this is cool.”). But a really good game keeps you focused on what's yet to come.' (Sid Meier, p. 196)
