This was a generally enjoyable book. The pace changes halfway through the book it feels like, as most of the book focuses on the "onset" of the event, instead of the part where society adapted to the effects. Usage of curse words was unnecessary, in my opinion, as it didn't add character development. 
On a positive note, the characters were well developed and relatable, and the plot was simple and enjoyable.
