The Consequences of Fear by Jacqueline Winspear

3.75

This one takes place in autumn 1941.  Young Freddie Hackett, who literally runs errands for a British intelligence unit, witnesses a murder, and only Maisie and her colleagues seem to believe him.  The writing is fine, but I have to suspect that I'm not the only reader who stops early to glance at the final pages to see who's going to survive the story.
