So… this book had no business being as long as it was, and there was too many story lines happening for any one of them to feel ~meaty~. I also don’t think I can get past SJM repeatedly resurrecting every significant character that dies; these books took me FOREVER to read because they felt so low stakes. Still, this is my favorite book in the series because of the character development and the message it carried.

This book is, among many other things, a description of the healing process from deep seated trauma, and the power of friendship and community. It gets at the ways in which trauma sits in our bodies and screams for attention until it has been given it (and how we can go about doing that).

Knowing SJM wove parts of her own story into this book makes it more meaningful, and I can imagine this was very healing for her to write. I do have many qualms/frustrations with this book in regard to plot, but Nesta’s healing journey still did something to me. And I think that’s worth something.
