Daughters of Jubilation by Kara Lee Corthron

5.0

I loved this book. Magic, realism, and horror combined to make this story one that I couldn’t put down. I love the main character because she’s real. I love the intergenerational connections, but also the commentary on how our trauma influences and impacts future generations. The romance between the MC and Clay made me so happy, and yet, the combination of fantastic elements foreshadowed the fact that it wasn’t going to play out the way I imagined it to. And the villain! I hated him. The fact that this villain had no magic made it even more relevant to today even if the setting is in the past. I just can’t say enough about how much I loved this book.
