Every Love Story Is a Ghost Story: A Life of David Foster Wallace by D.T. Max

5.0

I'm an all-things-Wallace junky, so there's that. And I feel that Max wrote a captivating, fast-moving, insightful biography. Many of the details of Wallace's life were new to me, and much like his novels, where it felt cathartic to experience the struggles of his characters, I empathized with many of the struggles that plagued Wallace as a man and as a writer. Beyond being a biography of a writer, I think Max wrote a book about a human whose passion for life conflicted with inner-torment and fears that life was hopeless, which is probably a message any reader could identify with.
