I do rarely find a book that leaves me giddy to read like I was as a kid again, but The Familiar really brought that eagerness back. The writing was organic and well researched. The pacing was perfect and the horror sucks you in though it's not a constant fixation. From the hot drama, court gossip, daring escapes, and a few tasteful fade to black lover's nights I can say that The Familiar is a grand time. It sucks you in, connives you along with the court members being fooled, and tricks you get again. For the period it's written in, I was hardly bored. I really hope it gets a visual adaptation given the grand descriptive delights within.
