Infinite Detail
by Tim Maughan
Tim Maughan’s Infinite Detail is a rich exploration of how much of our humanity we willingly give to technology in the hopes of connecting with other people, places, and things. The book gives readers a relatively generic picture of a future made up of headline news from the present, with characters rarely fleshed out enough to invest in or care about. The technology in the book is more interesting than the people supposedly slaves to it, creating an interesting moment for readers who may skim the character parts to hear more about the tech. It feels accidental, not purposeful, and leaves me wondering why a book called Infinite Detail can’t spare more detail for the things the book purports to want us to care about.
