In One Person by John Irving
4.0

I really enjoyed this. Irving crafts a lifetime effortlessly, delving deep into a young man's psyche, illuminating areas of sexual identity that our popular culture abandons to the gray. It's not a page turner, by any means; I think to be appreciated it should be savored, because Irving's fantastic protagonist Billy has so much to say about the importance of family (however unconventional), growing up, and sexuality. I still haven't read [b:The World According to Garp|7069|The World According to Garp|John Irving|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1210680957s/7069.jpg|1028204], so maybe people who have experienced that novel will have something different to say. I just know that I was mesmerized by the folks surrounding Billy; it was such a brilliantly cast novel. Even the most seemingly minor of characters adds a layer of commentary on the complexities of sexual experiences.
