Ooooh boy. I knew what I was getting into. I knew the epilogue had the potential to ruin this book. But I HAD to try. And I truly don't know how I feel.
The majority of the book was great. The journal Emma found was really intriguing (though it seemed to also be a character assassination of Rex Harrison?). And, even though it was clear Emma was being gaslit by her husband, I was thoroughly engaged.
And then we found out that LINDSAY was the mastermind gaslighter. And I loved it. She was just absolutely bonkers insane and I love a chaotic villain. The way she was manipulating Ben was great. And him thinking he was running things. Amazing.
And then we get that weird memory of JD's with the hermits in a communal bed listening to baby cries? We'll pretend that didn't happen because what.
Finally, Emma is rescued by JD. Ben and Lindsay crash their car and all is right with the world.
OR IS IT?
The epilogue completely negating the happy ending we though Emma had was, as everyone has said, incredibly frustrating. But also just makes no sense. When did Emma supposedly get into an accident? Is she being gaslit again? Why would JD be in on it?
Just what the fuck.
This book was insane and while the ending didn't piss me off it certainly didn't help the book be much more than a low 3.
