A sickening, dark, and superb take on the brides of Dracula.
This epistolary novel is voiced by the bride that ends the life of her undead lover, working backwards, you feel culled into how our heroine freed herself and other fellow lovers from the grips of a twisted polycule. This novel is touted as one that claws on the locked doors of many who have experienced the never ending rain after an abusive relationship, so reader be aware.
Thumbs up: A seductive and heart wrenching novel which I will gladly applaud. I am rarely someone who is pulled so quickly into the foggy landscape of dark novels such as this but I have been thinking about it since I put it down.
Thumbs down: None.
Was it a nail biter? Well done Gibson, this standalone that deserves a standing ovation for its storytelling, prose, and relationship building. It will give a lens to many the shapeshifting form that abuse can take, and when the façade cracks, how internal power can be still be lit aflame after centuries of extinction.
