The Running Grave by Robert Galbraith
5.0

I cannot say enough good things about this detective series written by J. K. Rowling, writing as Robert Galbraith. And while like her Harry Potter books, each novel getting longer and longer, it gives the reader more to fall in love with the flawed, but intrepid, partners Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott. One of the cases assigned to their agency involves a father who wants desperately to get his son out of a cult. When a different family tried earlier to kidnap their child out of the cult's clutches, that child committed suicide. Cormoran and Robin decide to infiltrate the cult and Robin spends six harrowing weeks experiencing near starvation, a gruesome punishment, and daily brainwashing. The reader begins to understand how this type of organization works to prey of the minds of untethered people, who have little hope or community/family connections. At the same time, the partners' firm is handling a couple of other cases, and there is the ongoing possible romantic tension between Cormoran and Robin. One of those books you just can't put down. Can't wait for the next installment!
