The early chapters had a lot of promise. The opening twist with Darrow realising the Reds' place in the world was powerful and the writing zipped along. However, once we got to the Academy it started to feel like one long Hunger Games rip-off.  A slog with such limited characterisation that I felt no emotional attachment to any of the main players and experienced no emotional reaction to any of the violent twists and turns of the plot. Flat, one-dimensional reading experience.
