The Amulet of Samarkand by Jonathan Stroud
4.0

Someone I follow has been raving about this book for the longest, so I finally got around to listening to it! I would definitely recommend this to fantasy and alternate history fans. Bartimaeus is an excellent character with biting wit, sardonic narration, and a keen eye for magicians' faults. Nathaniel is a product of his upbringing, very proud, and prone to leap before considering the consequences. I'm excited to see what's next in the series! I hope I'll learn more about Bartimaeus, and I hope Nathaniel wises up to the corruption around him. Bartimaeus has joined the ranks of my favorite magical and sometimes malevolent spirits! (Some other faves are Mogget from Abhorsen and Silas from A Sorcery of Thorns)
