Brutal Obsession by S. Massery
3.0

I read Massery's second book in the hockey series so I was excited to read Greyson and Violet's story. Here are my thoughts:

Greyson: Extremely arrogant, rich, entitled, sadistic, dreadfully ambitious, violent. He has issues with his father as he wasn't there for him as a child and completely shut down when G's mother left them. His father is cunning, conniving, manipulative, and entitled. Literally everything that G is, but G hates his father.

Violet: Many different sides to Violet. Fragile, graceful, sadistic, violent, ambitious, naive.

General insights: I won't do a pros and cons list for this review. I don't think that Greyson and Violet had chemistry. They had passion in their shared kink and trauma, but I didn't understand why these characters were supposed to have chemistry. He truly did a messed up thing to her and didn't take any accountability. Even when he realizes he loves her, he still doesn't take accountability. He consistently believes that she screwed him over. He just makes her life worse. The stalker in this book was anticlimactic. It really wasn't necessary since it seemed like an afterthought. As I read this book, I kept seeing parallels bleeding in from book 2. But book 2 wasn't as violent, and the story flowed better.

There were some inconsistencies in continuity or just unclear actions, like Violet was wearing a dirty shirt, took a shower, and then put that shirt back on...why? Some sentences weren't clear in structure as well.

I will keep reading the series. I am interested in Miles and Jacob's stories. I highly recommend book 2.
