Ecstasy by Mary Sharratt

5.0

I absolutely love fiction interpretations of historical figures, and this book did not disappoint. It started out a little slow, so my expectations weren't very high, but Alma became more and more fascinating to me as the book progressed. The story reminded me of Kate Chopin's The Awakening, which probably my favorite work of classic literature. There are a few passages, one in particular toward the end, that resonated very, very deeply with me, which is why this book is earning five stars. I've made note of all the biographies about Alma that Sharratt used to write this book, and I absolutely cannot wait to read them and learn more about Alma the historical figure.

What a great book.
