This is a brilliant dark and rather disturbing account of a deeply toxic love affair. At its best it is a spectacular novel of the body, of someone learning what their body is in society, and the place of the female body. It is also an intense exploration of a caricature of a heterosexual relationship, which raised questions about how those work.
