Everyone's Thinking It by Aleema Omotoni

4.0

I will be adding this book to my dark academia list because the level of foolishness that some of the characters had is similar to books like The Secret History. Just saying.

Set in Wodebury Hall, an elite English boarding school, we follow two Nigerian students Iyanu and Kitan, they are cousins who have become estranged since getting into year something (just know it is high school).

This is mainly because they are both trying to build a reputation and identity, Kitan, by code switching and blending into the populous group, while Iyanu stays in the fringes with her photography.

Their existence in the school is threatened when pictures that Iyanu took during one of the school event is stolen and shared around with damning secrets exposed. This also affects Kitan, as the guy she is likes and is going to a dance with, is exposed to be only doing it because of a bet.
It is up to Iyanu and her friends to navigate the commotion, find who exposed the secrets.

There are discussions on classism, racism, black face, biphobia, homophobia and blackmail.

I specifically like how Iyanu's parent were really supportive of her endeavours. Even when she was falling behind, they guided without condemnation.

I enjoyed this book.
