4.75 ⭐️ Margo’s Got Money Troubles ended up being so different than I expected it to be. I would be lying to say that I did not judge this book by it’s cover - as I totally did, and immediately added myself to the waitlist for it on audiobook via my local library based solely on how much I liked the cover art.
This book deals with many heavy and complex themes, including tense/strained family dynamics, sex work, addiction/recovery, power dynamics, abortion, misogyny, poverty, and stigma. Although the book deals with all these heavy topics, there were still incredible moments of warmth, joy, found family, and comedy. I loved the characters, their development/arcs, and how invested I felt in each of their journeys and growth across this book.
I overall really enjoyed this book and think it will stay with me as one of my favourites of 2024. The audiobook was great and I would definitely recommend it!
Moderate: Drug abuse, Drug use, Misogyny, Sexual content, Toxic relationship, Pregnancy
