I really enjoyed this atmospheric, gothic novel set in 1890s Cornwall.
After the death of her mother, the sensible Mary goes to live with her aunt and uncle, who are proprietors of the Jamaica Inn. She soon discovered her uncle is a sinister character with a drinking problem and secrets to hide.
I enjoyed the writing style and found the characters compelling if not likeable. I wasn't on board with the ending at all, but would certainly pick up more books by this author.
