As a Morgan Elizabeth superfan, I really wanted to love this so much more. A Taylor Swift coded book? It sounds like a dream come true! But I definitely don't think it's anywhere near her best work. I found the characters in this to be a bit too stubborn, and it made it difficult to fall in love with them like I have so easily with her other characters.
Zander, who I remember really liking from past books, has himself convinced he is so in love with Zoe, yet he is trying to change everything about her. And I get it, he misses the care-free version of Zoe he loved when they were younger, but people change as they grow up and enter the real world and shouldn't have to worry about who they are just to please someone else. But at the same time, it was painfully clear how unhappy Zoe's corporate ladder life was making her. So when she quit her job and dumped her boyfriend on a whim, I don't understand why she was so stubborn all of a sudden to admit that and try something new when clearly she had an epiphany at one point.
The whole thing just felt very repetitive, with them having the same conversations over and over again and I felt like it was just missing something.
