where to even begin? the plot twists, the secrets, the foreshadowing, the hints that seemed so importantly vague. I collected these clues with highlighter & sticky notes, hoping it’d all make sense soon. but hearing everything laid out at the end still left me speechless.

the mysteries!! the doors, the stories, the 3 sisters, the bull, the flowers, the energy in every room, the powers they possessed. the way that questions were only ever half-answered until the very last moment of the book.

as everything became clearer, I kept flipping back to finally match the highlighted clues with their solved solutions.

the pacing was slow but never boring. each scene’s vibe was so vividly described, enlaced with clues and mystery. it left goosebumps on my skin without needing outright gore. I’ve realized how much I love dark fantasy.

I couldn’t put it down. the plot twist left me shocked but empathetic. morally gray. in between. halfway. just like the main point of the story. you’ll understand what I mean when you read it. 100% recommend.

♡ favorite quote: “she was a tornado in the form of a girl.”

songs that match the vibes:
• easha - dying is a beautiful thing to do
• sarah cothran - as the world caves in

“but I’m the kind of girl
that you write songs about.
mystery you can’t get out your head
before you sleep at night,
once in a lifetime.”

SPOILERS!! thoughts about the ending:
oh my god, the plot twist about the girls being monsters. it explains so much & there was so much subtle foreshadowing that I went back to find & highlight. it explains their powers, the eyes & teeth, Grey’s evergreen aura of positive & negative energy. the way she leaves the room & people still sense her. no wonder people fell to their knees at her. she was enchanting. & the ending!! I don’t know how to feel. I hope this turns into a series (which I rarely hope for, but I really want to know what happened to Tyler & more about the Halfway) or that it turns into a movie. to be fair, they did mention that Grey continued on with her life, so maybe her brief moments of grief were over? maybe he’d be set free by then? it’d seem weird for Iris to end up with Grey’s ex. anyways, adored the whole book & the ending, although didn’t answer what happened to Tyler, was very conclusive & satisfactory. I’m still so hungry for more details about Grey, her aura, what happens when they take off the skin, what happened to Tyler, etc.
