The Chemist
by Stephenie Meyer
So disappointing. I don't read this genre very often, but I know to expect weak characters, cheesy dialogue and cliche romantic interactions. That's the trade-off for a gripping page-turner that keeps you frantically reading.
This was not that kind of book. Yes, there were weak characters, cheesy dialogue and cliche romantic interactions. But the actual story was straight up boring. I was 3/4 of the way through and nothing really new had happened from the initial set-up. I really didn't care, and when I finished I was annoyed that I had wasted so much time.
I read this because I read the whole Twilight series. I admit it. They were the equivalent of literary junk food: you knew they were bad for you but you couldn't help but indulge. But this book wasn't fun or juicy or compelling. What a let down.
