Royally Complicated by Christy Anderson, Gwyn McNamee

3.0

This was a mixed bag where I left with some great positives and not-so-great negatives.

To start with-- thanks to this one, I'm officially out the little reading slump funk I was in. Yay!
I consumed this within a day. It was definitely addicting!

I really enjoyed the chemistry between Bridget and Fyn and the smut scenes were all excellently written.

I am absolutely here for the next story that was set up at the end-- I can't wait to get more from that teased couple. But if it's possible to change a book title, I most certainly would prefer a new one, ha! Nonetheless-- regardless of my overall mixed feelings with this story, I'm absolutely intrigued for the next one to come. Consider me all in.

As for some of those negatives? This book features one of my least favorite tropes: insta-love.

It started as insta-lust, and I 100% was all for that first scandalous meeting between the leads. I appreciated the time that went by prior to their next meeting, but the plot started to lose me with how quickly Bridget fell back into Fyn's arms. Rather than insta-love, I think I would have preferred some boy obsessed trope only.

The pacing of the story frustrated me at times-- so did certain choices Bridget made.
Spoiler I thought some great angst was being set up when she booked a flight to go back home, but within a chapter it was all resolved. The build is such a tease to an overall flat execution.

Nevertheless, I did enjoy this read, and as mentioned-- I'm absolutely here for the next couple's story.
