Silver Nitrate by Silvia Moreno-Garcia

2.25

This almost read like a screenplay, but it took really long to have much of a payoff.

The prose is direct and repetitive, and I started to like it more once I thought of it as a screenplay-turned-novel and how cool an idea that could be. I liked so much about the book in theory — characters are interesting, setting and time are really well-written, the premise is cool — but ultimately it just took too long to get anywhere and everything felt so...literal.

I’d read more by the author though, just didn’t like this completed package.
