Kit & Basie by Tess Carletta

5.0

The cozy fantasy to beat all cozy fantasies! The perfect read for the holiday season, even if it’s not specifically a “holiday” book! Not only is it a delightful romance between two delightful boys set in a small Pennsylvanian town— there’s also an overarching theme throughout this book of grief and how to live for those we have lost. I feel both of those elements were really well balanced throughout this book. I loved watching their romance develop and seeing this town help bring them together all while Basie is trying to overcome his own hardships. It is equal parts whimsical and down to earth all at the same time.

While this book has a fantastic cast of lovable characters, I definitely connected to Basie the most given we have both experienced very similar losses so maybe that makes me kinda biased over my love of this book. I have felt all the same sorrow he has felt and I think his journey with grief was very well written and I am so thankful this book exists because of all that!
